Yep... I am that Mom...

I have come to the conclusion that my son is half monkey... We have been struggling keeping him in his crib lately. He used to only get out of his crib when he would wake up in the morning, which was not a big deal. It has gotten to the point that now, we can't get him to nap because he won't stay in his crib! This has made for some very difficult evenings with an extremely tired little boy... We have tried everything to keep him in his crib, but he just won't stay in. We had gotten so desperate we tried taking the advise of a friend who told us to lower his crib mattress to the floor so he can't reach his leg up to crawl out. Well, we lowered it to the floor put him in, and proceeded to watch him scale the crib like he was a monkey climbing a tree! We even got it on video! We considered moving him to a big boy bed, but that won't fix the problem, it will just change it, so we decided to wait until he is a little bit older to make that transition so he can understand when we tell him he has to stay in his bed, and can discipline him when he gets out. So in the meantime, it looks like we only had one option...

This past weekend I went out and bought a crib tent. I really didn't want to get one, but we were out of options... So far it seems to be working. We also moved Abby and Logan into the same room this weekend... So far, the nights seem to be going great, and nap time, well that is going to take some time for them to adjust to...

UPDATE: Well it took so long to get a picture to add to this post, it has been a few weeks since this all took place. The tent is awesome, and as you can see by the smile on his face, he loves it. I never thought I would say that, but it works and everyone is happy and getting sleep! Also, it only took a couple of days for the kids to adjust to sharing a room at nap time!! I was so surprised at how well the transition went. Logan is not happy when Abby leaves the room to go potty. He stands up in his crib and yells "sissy come back!!" They love sharing a room! We are still working out the kinks in the bedtime routine as we no longer have a rocker in their room, and Logan thinks Abby's bed is one huge trampoline, but as long as when we turn out the lights they go to bed shortly after, we figure we can come up with the best routine as we go... :)

The Mind of a Toddler...

I am amazed at the things that come out of my 3 year old's mouth! It makes me laugh to hear her thought process. She seems to take after her parents, and has a lot to say! I am not able to remember all the times we have been surprised by what she has said, but I wanted to document as many as possible before I forget...

  • While driving past a very small airport in Kansas with little planes:
"Mommy when that plane grows up and gets bigger can I fly in it?"
  • She pulled out her little rolling suitcase one Sunday after church and was pulling it around the living room. She looked up at me and said: "Goodbye mommy, I am going to Heaven with God"
  • I gave her and Logan "gummys" and "tabbies" with their lunch (vitamins & vegetable tabs) and Abby noticed I didn't have any she said: "mommy when you get little like me will you get gummys and tabbies too?"
  • While watching Snow White, when her prince comes and rescues her she got really excited and yells out to me: "Look mommy her daddy came!!" (In her eyes who else would come rescue you besides daddy??) She also does this with Sleeping Beauty.
  • We have been trying to work on her understanding time, and when things will happen. We would tell her "first it will be Nana's birthday, then it will be grandpa's birthday, then Aunt Shawna's birthday, then Logan's birthday, then Baby Caleb will be here." Seth has also been telling her that "once baby Caleb gets here she will get to watch football with Daddy on Saturday mornings." Now anytime someone talks about baby Caleb coming she lets them know "and I get to watch football with daddy!"
